Recently, I got a chance to try out this definitive version of Brood War, and was shocked by how faithful it is. A short exchange with senior producer Pete Stilwell gave me more insight into StarCraft: Remastered than several hours of actual play. He replied that the team would be content even if zero new players ended up playing.
Above all else, StarCraft: Remastered is for the people who loved the original and kept it alive for the past 19 years. Nearly every aspect of the game is in service to this idea. The silhouettes, colors, and animations of the units have been meticulously reproduced, and the updated unit art is often indistinguishable from the original unless viewed next to its pixelated counterpart.
All of the anachronistic restrictions and quirks of the original have been kept intact, from the painfully low unit selection limit to the comically bad pathfinding AI on certain units. Commonly used bugs and exploits have also been left untouched, accepted now as an integral part of the game. Even here, Blizzard is obsessed with adhering to the spirit of the original. Production hotkeys, used to make units and buildings, differed in the various language versions of BW.
Thus, rebinding them is considered to be within the spirit of the game, and is allowed in SC:R. On the other hand, hotkeys for unit groupings and camera positions were unchanged in all language releases of BW, and have therefore been placed off-limits. I had trouble noticing the gorgeous HD graphics beyond the opening phases of a game.
The Role Queue system is designed to help take the edge off this process, ultimately leading to matches that feel fairer and more fun, where players are in roles that they want to be in. The matchmaking system will then match two tanks, two supports, and two damage heroes to create a team, and upon entering match, players will select heroes within their chosen roles. At the end of a match in both Competitive Play and Quick Play , players will return to the main menu and select their role before queuing for the next game.
Each of the three roles will have its own queue, and players will be able to see estimates for the wait time for each at the role-selection screen.

It is still an amazingly designed game. It is my go-to game when it comes to seeing a well designed-RTS. That said, Starcraft is not designed for casual multiplayer enjoyment. Problem with dealing with leavers in sc2 is that normal games usually end problem while you get matched with a MMR down tanking player.
An “experimental version” of AlphaStar will be queuing into the European StarCraft II server’s competitive ladder—where players participate in ranked matches—”soon,” the developer said in a blog post today. Anyone who wants to participate will have to opt into the chance to play against the StarCraft II program, an option that will soon become available as an in-game pop-up window triggered by a “DeepMind opt-in” button on the one-on-one menu.
Here’s the catch: European players that do opt-in won’t know if they’ve been matched up against AlphaStar—these are blind test matches. DeepMind decided to run the test this way to ensure that players aren’t tailoring their strategies specifically for AlphaStar; instead, they want StarCraft II users to play normally. Blizzard said AlphaStar will be matched up against players on a “small number” of games, but didn’t specify exactly how many.
It also helps ensure all games are played under the same conditions from match to match.
